Tangelewood Vines is set amongest the beautiful hills surrounding the South West Australian town of Bridgetown in the Blackwood Valley Wine Region.

It all started in about 1996 when we would drive down from Perth on free weekends looking for suitable properties. The Blackwood Valley was always very attractive to us for a number of reasons. Its natural beauty was obvious and the fact that it had a fantastic climate and all the right conditions for growing premium wine grapes. It was also in good proximity to Perth and it had a growing tourists potential. The Blackwood Valley had also just been recognized and registered as a new wine growing region in Western Australia. The climate is generally warm to cool at the top end of the valley, but winter sees temperatures drop considerably, with cold nights and good frosts. The soils are well drained, gravely loams over clay. In October 1998 we finally found the place we were looking for. It had the right soil and sun aspect and plenty of potential for catching water.

With lots of old bits and pieces we made the house comfortable and started working on our dream.... Spring 1999 we planted our first vines, 6 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon. The following year we planted another 5 acres, this time Merlot. In 2001 we planted our first white grape vines Viognier. The first couple of vintages were sold onto another winery, but since our first vintage of wine made here at Tanglewood in 2003 we have consistently won awards for our wines. The Tanglewood Viognier 2007 also received a trophy for best Blackwood Valley white wine of 2008 and was rated in the top three wines at the West Australian alternative variety wine show.

The  new release Viognier 2009 also recently won the trophy for the best white wine at the the Blackwood Valley West Australian Boutique Wine Show 2009 and the trophy for the best alternative white variety wine at the RSM Bird Cameron Timbers Towns Regional Wine Show 2010.
